A place to belong

One of my favorite television shows of all time involves a group of wacky characters who either work in or frequent a bar in Boston. The show of course is…..Cheers! The exploits of the characters are often beyond belief. Sometimes their decisions are less than admirable and the situations they find themselves in are at times unbelievable. But the show communicates the consistent theme of belonging and that’s what really makes it appealing to me. Even the theme song of the show communicates that deep human desire to want to belong…

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You wanna be where everybody knows your name.”

Does that sound good to you? Are you looking for a place where everybody knows your name and they are always glad you came? If so the Freeport Church may be just the place you’re looking for. Like the cast of Cheers we are wacky group of people from a variety of circumstances. We have waitresses and washed up jocks and guys who work with their hands for a living. We even have a psychiatrist! We are all struggling with the same issues you are: finances, marriage, kids, aging parents, school, finding work and/or dealing with the pressures of the job we have. We are all blessed because we have found a place of belonging, a place where we can honestly share our struggles and not be judged for who we are or the mistakes we’ve made. We are searching for answers and a God who loves us and we’d love it if you visited.

If you decide to check us out, don’t worry about what you wear, someone will look like you. Most of us (guys) are either in jeans or khaki’s with some kind of shirt, a few guys wear ties and that’s ok too. Some of the ladies wear pants, others wear a skirt or a dress. It’s really up to you.

As for the kids…. ours try our patience just like yours try your patience. We love them anyway and they are welcome. We have an awesome children’s program that coincides with the adult Bible study and starts at 10 am. Our emphasis is always on our teenagers, we include them in everything and have special programs just for them. (Check out Limitless on Wednesday night at 6 PM!)

If you’d like to take a break from all your worries visit us this Saturday at 10 AM. We’ll be glad you came!
