Brought to Light
When God decided way back when
To take this darkened speck in space
And make it something beautiful,
A perfumed, colored dwelling place
For creatures that could swim and fly
And run and jump with joy and grace,
He saved the best for last to make -
Resembling God: the human race.
When God appeared upon the scene
The darkness left without a trace
The second that He spoke the word
And showed his brightly smiling face.
And there was light to shine upon
What hitherto was void and dark.
His presence and his voice awoke
A brilliance as a tiny spark
May in an instant turn to flame,
Which burns with luminescent bright
Full of vibrant energy,
Hot and moving, magic might.
And day by day as He appeared
He added more to his creation
Until at last this masterpiece
Had reached its final culmination.
When Jesus came into our world
He found it plagued with suffering
A place where sin too long had ruled,
In need of healing He could bring.
For years He travelled near and far
By foot, by boat, to everywhere
Within the region where He Lived
To show a better way and share
In stories told, in words and deeds,
The truth about the kingdom of
His Father God who'd sent him here,
Whose principles are perfect love.
And yet there were some enemies
Who ever followed on his trail
Intent to tempt him to do wrong
And make his mission thus to fail.
But such attempts had no effect,
For Jesus kept on doing good.
And so his death was made a plan.
They'd make him suffer, if they could.
At last in anguish none could know
They spiked his body to a tree
On which He gave his very life
To save from sin humanity.
To those who watched and saw it all
It seemed that evil won the game
That good and God had somehow lost
Extinguished in a blackened shame
But black despair has never been
A thing which God cannot erase
His love is stronger than all sin
And none can match amazing grace.
And thus it was Creator God,
As at the start of everything
When darkness fled when He appeared
As light and life He came to bring,
When now it seemed that all was lost,
Since Christ was crucified and dead
And all who'd put their faith in him
We're disillusioned now, instead,
When hope was at its lowest ebb
And darkness had the upper hand,
At just this moment black and bleak
He'd reappear as He had planned.
The old week ended, finally gone,
About the hour of coming dawn,
About the time the day was breaking,
It seemed the earth itself was shaking,
And something happened as the night
Gave way to rays of beaming light:
The very tomb where Jesus lay
Exposed itself to coming day,
And from that tomb of darkest death
The sound and evidence of breath
And beating heart and stirring limb
We're heard and felt as life in Him
Began to pulse with new elation
As once it did at man's creation.
The linen wraps, the burial clothes
Unwrapped themselves as He arose
And sat and stood upon his feet
And breathed the springtime air so sweet
While darkness fled in quick retreat
And death slunk back in dire defeat.
He then stepped forth to greet the day,
And shadows melted far away.
The light seemed brighter than before
For life eternal evermore
Was now assured and offered free
To even such as you and me
On resurrection first-day morn
Eternal hope at last was born.
The Savior's re-creative power
Was brought to light that very hour
And shines until this very day:
It's He, the Truth, the Life, the Way!
