The Very Thing...Unknowingly
Doing Good
The good that you may do today,
The value of some word you'll say
That may, perhaps, point out the way
To one who's foot has gone astray,
Encouragement that you may show
To someone you don't even know
Or to a friend who trusts you so,
An opportunity to grow,
Or your example others see,
Well, who's to say - it just might be
The very thing that one like me
May need today, unknowingly.
Yes, all such things and many more
May somehow open up a door
To something better than before,
To be, in fact, the winning score.
So if there's good you've not yet done -
A bunch of things, or even one -
That you may do before the sun,
Its daylight course at last has run,
Then do it without hesitation
No matter what your situation;
You need no further explanation,
For doing good's your best vocation.
