Today is a Temporary Fact
by Gary A. Fellows
Are there things you should forget?
Things, perhaps you may regret?
Why not hope for better things?
A song to hear the robin sings?
A silver lining to each cloud?
A reason to be duly proud?
And are there things you should refuse?
And things of value to reuse?
Is it time to take a stand?
Or heed a gentle reprimand?
Is today a time to wait?
A time to pause and hesitate?
Is it time for you to move?
A time for you to truly prove
That you shall not accept defeat?
Or face a future of retreat?
Is today a time to think
As you are perched upon the brink
Of great decisions you must make?
A time for chances you should take?
A time in silence to be still?
What's your purpose to fulfill?
Are there blessings to deploy?
Is there much you may enjoy?
Is there someone to receive?
Is there someone to believe?
Is there someone to embrace?
Is there memory to erase?
Is there truth you may discover?
Is there good you may recover?
Is there something to compose?
Amongst the thorns, is there a rose?
Something worthy, quite appealing?
What exactly are you feeling?
Today's a temporary fact,
So is today the time to act?
Is there right you should defend?
Someone who may need a friend?
A thought you ought to redefine?
A deed of kindness, good and fine
To do for someone you may meet?
A harmful feeling to defeat?
A race to run, a game to win?
A time to share a hearty grin?
A hand to hold, a heart to hug?
A baby sweet, asleep and snug
Who needs your tender-loving-care?
A reason to be bold and dare?
A person who awaits your kiss?
If you're alive and reading this
Then you have the time to do some choosing
Before the hour for slumbered snoozing
To make a difference worthy of
A first place ribbon dipped in love.
